Cloud Security Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Security Engineer to join our dynamic team in Houston, TX. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures across AWS and Azure environments. You will play a critical role in safeguarding our sensitive data, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and proactively mitigating security threats.

• Strengthened Access Control: Ensure only authorized access to cloud resources.
• Resilient Cloud Infrastructure: Design frameworks for robust cloud environments.
• Data Protection & Compliance: Safeguard data and meet regulatory requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
• Proactive Threat Detection & Response: Detect and mitigate threats before escalation.
• DevSecOps Integration: Embed security into the software development lifecycle.
• Compliance & Governance: Adhere to legal and organizational standards.
• Incident Response: Minimize incident impact with defined processes.
• Reduced Attack Surface: Eliminate vulnerabilities through proactive measures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Detect, Prevent, Remediate:

• Identify and assess security risks, communicate threats, and implement remediation.
• Design, implement, and maintain preventive and remediation controls across AWS and Azure.
• Apply industry-standard frameworks (CIS Benchmarks, AWS FSBP, MCSB).
• Track and report on the effectiveness of detective controls (AWS/Azure, Wiz, etc.).

Security Engineering Process:

• Develop cloud policies/standards for proactive threat response.
• Assist in integrating security into CI/CD pipelines and workflows.
• Contribute to security automation and posture improvements.

Compliance Management: Conduct security audits, manage documentation, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Collaboration and Training:

• Work with cross-functional teams to implement security practices.
• Lead training sessions on AWS and Azure security best practices.

Continuous Improvement: Evaluate emerging trends and integrate innovative security solutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Strong experience in AWS and/or Azure security services and frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, Security Hub, GuardDuty, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Config, Automated Security Remediation) and/or Azure security services (Entra ID, Cloud Defender).
• Experience securing containers and Kubernetes configurations.
• Proficiency in network security (virtual networks, firewalls, governance, subnets).
• Experience securing cloud infrastructure (IaaS patching, container image scanning).
• Experience with 3rd party remediation software such as Cloud Custodian, Stacklet.
• Demonstrated ability to secure and manage hybrid cloud environments.
• Proficient in scripting and automation (Python, Terraform, Azure Functions/AWS Lambda).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform).
• Develop and implement policy-as-code solutions (GitHub Copilot, AWS CodeWhisperer).
• Experience ensuring compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, and cloud security frameworks (CIS, AWS/FSBP, MCSB).
• Expertise embedding security controls within DevOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native development.
• Skills with GitHub/Azure-DevOps, PowerShell, Bash, AWS/Azure CLI.
• Familiarity with container security in AWS/Azure environments.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

AWS Certified Security – Specialty.
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate.
Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert.
CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent industry certifications.
